Parasitic Dodder

Parasitic DodderThis spaghetti-like red plant is a creeping parasite. It can attack forage crops and native plants. The twining can also get tangled in equipment. This species appears particularly abundant in the Krestova and Crescent Valley areas.

Prevent the spread of dodder by cleaning equipment, tools and footwear before leaving infested areas, and avoid selling or buying hay infested with dodder. If livestock have eaten hay infested with dodder, keep them contained in one area until the seeds have passed through their digestive systems.

To mechancically control dodder, cut and burn the infestations before the seeds ripen. Tillage alone is not effective. Dodder-infested material can be burned to destory the plant and the seeds. For chemical options, see the link below.
