Lamiastrum galeobdolon (sometimes called Lamium)is an invasive garden ornamental. This perennial vine spreads by runners as well as by seed. It is used in flower baskets, garden beds, and as a ground cover.
The plant can form a dense mat which climbs over other vegetation, choking it out. In coastal BC, it is considered to be a high priority invasive species. In the Kootenays, it is just starting to spread.
Avoid planting this species in your garden. Be careful disposing of garden waste, including old garden baskets and do not put it in the compost.
Once established, this plant can be pulled out by hand during fall through spring, two or three times a year, before seeds set.
