Federal Funding Available for Invasive Plant Projects

The Government of Canada is now accepting applications for funding under the Invasive Alien Species Partnership Program (IASPP) until December 16, 2005. Funding through the IASPP is available for projects that address the threat of aquatic invasive species, terrestrial invasive alien plants and plant pests, and invasive alien animals. Funding is available for projects to be completed in two timeframes.

The first allocation is available to support projects that must be completed in their entirety by March 31, 2006. Available funding is expected to focus on education and outreach initiatives that address priority pathways of invasion.

The second allocation is available to support projects that will be initiated April 1, 2006 and completed by March 31, 2007. For these projects, available funding will be directed more broadly, including for education and outreach initiatives that address priority pathways of invasion; surveillance and management projects to detect, control and eradicate invasive alien species; and other activities that increase awareness and improve the understanding of Canadians of invasive alien species.

Up to $50,000 per year will be available to individual projects, and multi-year projects will be considered for funding. Applicants are welcome to submit multiple project proposals for each timeframe; however, successful applicants may be limited to one funded project per year depending on the overall demand for funding from the Program. Submissions that promote the establishment of partnerships between stakeholders and include financial or in-kind contributions from other sources are encouraged.

For more detailed information on developing and submitting a funding application, please refer to the Invasive Alien Species Partnership Program Application Guidelines and Application Form, available online at the following website address:
